The first two months

It had been 3-4 years that I had been working from home, and always craved for an excuse to get out of the house. Their were times that I would spend every weekend in a month out of town, to a getaway with family. Initially the work from home concept was just amazing, but over the years I found the other side of the coin.

This led me to subscribe to Gym memberships but that did not help either as my time never matched their time. I finally invested in a cycle. I had visited cycle stores many a time but always came out with some excuse or another from friends and family that it is too risky."Gosh, one can not think of riding a 2-wheeler in this city and you are thinking a cycle!"

Against many odds I went ahead with a budget of 7-8 k in my mind and that of my soul mate and ended up buying a Firefox Target. The reason I went above budget was that it was an all aluminium bike, and I was not very sure how often I would ride her, so as not to rust her. :)

God had a different story written for me on that. The day I picked up my bike I rode her back home. It was an exhilarating experience. It was like reliving my childhood. And since I still stay in the same area I grew up in and had pedaled a lot around my teenage days, it was indeed reliving those days. I felt much better and soon started riding more often. I found a lot of groups and tried as much as I could managing time to meet them on group excursions.

My initial days I just used to watch GPS logs of riders on how often is one riding and what should be the pace etc. The best regime I realised were the magic hours around sunrise. Though I have never been a morning person, in fact most of the mornings I have seen are those when I burnt the night lamp. But change is constant, and the one who adapt early is in a better position.

In the initial days I used to follow many riders internationally and at home. Bro Ankit Lamba, Rajiv Chadhaji, Rohit Manaktalaji are those whom I would just try and meet in one of their daily regimes. They are now, but were surely not even aware then, that it was with a lot self motivation and inspiration by them that I would get out of my bed and ride. I often missed them but just a hello from them or waive across the road was enough to make my day. I never interfered with their regime and never asked them to wait for me or ride with me. Their dedication still inspires me and I am sure, many other cyclists in NCR.

I also found a lot of advantages to have a regime to cycle. My day would be more wisely spent and it had a more balanced approach to many things. Soon I had developed a camaraderie with my cycling buddies, they still inspire me to reach out and achieve more than I think I can. A constant motivation they indeed are.
